    In this rare condition, almost all of the brain tissue that may have been originally present has disappeared, probably because the blood flow to it has stopped. It may be caused by vascular infections or traumatic disorders after the 12th week of pregnancy.

    There’s no definitive treatment for hydrancephaly. Even if blood flow can be restored, the loss is permanent as there is no way to get the brain tissue to grow again.
